KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer Guide (2026)
Last updated: May 2026
The KitchenAid Artisan is the most common home stand mixer in the US: and also one of the most confusing to buy. There are multiple models, dozens of colors, and constantly varying prices.
Model comparison
| Model | Motor | Bowl | Head | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Artisan Mini (KSM3316) | 250W | 3.5 qt | Tilt | Small kitchens; lighter tasks |
| Artisan (KSM150) | 325W | 5 qt | Tilt | Most home bakers: the standard recommendation |
| Professional 600 (KP26M1X) | 575W | 6 qt | Bowl-lift | Heavy doughs; large batches |
The right model for most people: Artisan KSM150
The Artisan 5-quart is the right choice for the vast majority of home bakers. The 325-watt motor handles cookies, cakes, standard bread doughs, whipped cream, and meringue without straining.

When to buy the Professional 600 instead
The Professional 600 (575 watts, 6-quart bowl, bowl-lift design) is the right upgrade if you regularly make very stiff doughs: dense whole wheat bread, bagels, stiff pasta dough: or make large batches regularly.
The color decision
All KitchenAid Artisan colors share identical specs. Empire Red, White, and Onyx Black are the most consistently available at standard pricing. Premium colors add $40–$100.
Attachments: the real long-term value
The KitchenAid attachment ecosystem is the primary reason to choose KitchenAid over competitors. Powered attachments include a pasta roller and cutter set, food grinder, ice cream maker, grain mill, spiralizer, and more. All connect through the same front hub.
When to buy
The KitchenAid Artisan regularly goes on sale during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and sporadically throughout the year for $100–$150 below list price. Waiting for a sale is worthwhile when timing allows.
