About thecook.com

thecook.com is an independent editorial gear guide for serious home cooks — people who have moved past the starter kit and are ready to buy equipment that lasts.

What this site is

A research tool for people making considered purchases. We cover cookware by material (cast iron, carbon steel, stainless, enameled, PFAS-free nonstick), brand-versus-brand comparisons, chef's knives at every price point, and kitchen appliances from stand mixers to espresso machines. Every piece of content exists to resolve a real purchase decision.

What this site is not

A recipe site. A beginner's guide to cooking. A professional chef supply directory. A paid-placement product showcase. We have excluded all of these by design.

How we evaluate products

Our assessments draw on published manufacturer specifications, verified user review patterns across thousands of Amazon and third-party reviews, category knowledge accumulated across the cookware and knife markets, and comparison of competing products at equivalent price points.

We do not claim to have personally cooked every meal on every pan we mention. We do claim that every factual statement on this site has been verified before publication.

We flag whenever a product has had a material formulation change, a recall, or a regulatory development that affects our recommendation. The PFAS landscape in cookware is the most active example — we track state-level enforcement timelines and update content accordingly.

Affiliate relationships

thecook.com earns a commission when readers click our Amazon affiliate links and make a purchase. This commission does not affect the price you pay. It does not affect our editorial recommendations. See our full FTC disclosure for details.

We note in content wherever Amazon is not the best purchase path for a product. Several direct-to-consumer brands (Made In, Misen, Great Jones) have partial or limited Amazon presence; we link to them on Amazon where available and note where the brand's own site is the better option.
